TTS doesn't aim to reinforce the rules of every single individual board game, but instead tries to enforce the rules of physics and lets the players sort the rest out.

Tabletop Simulator is an open multiplayer sandbox that simulates objects (such as game components) in a way that allows users to play pretty much any type of board or card game.
I rarely see people talk about this game here, so I think an explainer might be in order. Add in a webcam Zoom chat on your second monitor and this effect is amped up even more. I think that this is because in TTS (and board games in general) it very often feels like hanging out with your friends is the primary activity and gameplay is secondary, whereas for something like a multiplayer first person shooter this ratio is reversed. After a session on TTS I come away feeling like I've consumed a healthy dose of some sort of social-interaction supplement.
To compensate I've been hammering the Tabletop Simulator servers pretty much every night, and I've come to the conclusion that this game is underappreciated on this forum.Īlthough there's no perfect substitute for real-life meat-space board games, playing Tabletop Simulator comes pretty damn close. Over the past several weeks, social isolation has prevented me from participating in my favourite activity: Getting a bunch of friends together to sink beers and play board games.
